Living a healthy lifestyle and incorporating a good health regime into your daily routine can be challenging. Eating healthy is one thing, but providing your body with essential vitamins and minerals is another hurdle all together. When my clients are trying to boost energy, loose weight, clear up their skin, simply cleanse or build up their immune system, my first question is always; ‘Do you take a good vitamin?’
Getting the fundamental Vitamins and Minerals is paramount to ultimate health. So to make it easy I’ve put together a list of the 3 most valuable and essential vitamins to consider taking everyday for optimal health.
.
These include; a multivitamin, omega-3 fatty acids and calcium with magnesium. Let’s take a look at why;
Essential Multi-Vitamins:
For optimal health our bodies need a variety of vitamins, minerals, bioflavonoids and mother micronutrients. Ideally the majority of our nutrients both micro and macro optimally comes from a healthy diet regime rich in fruits and vegetables. However obtaining these nutrients from diet alone has become quiet a challenge not only because of the nutrient depleted food sources available but also due to the hectic lifestyles we live in today’s society.
When choosing the right multivitamin for you it is important to be sure that the right nutrients are being provided in the correct amounts, in the proper dosage quantities to ensure optimal health.
Typical multivitamins contain approximately 10 vitamins and 10 minerals including vitamins A, C, D, E, K and minerals like potassium and zinc. When choosing your multivitamin a must – is to make sure it contains Iodine. Iodine is a mineral that is extremely important for thyroid, brain and liver health… and it is quiet often omitted by manufactures of a large percentage of multivitamins available in the marketplace.
Finally it is important to make sure that your multivitamin is split into two doses. Splitting your intake to twice daily (morning and night) allows your body to efficiently absorb the vitamins and minerals.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids:
The amount of Omega-3 fatty acids individually consumed in the last few decades has dramatically dropped from our diets. Supplementation with Omega 3’s is an excellent way to ensure that your diet includes the wonderful fat’s that protect your heart, arteries, fights wrinkles, lubricates joints and boosts brain function.
There are many Omega-3 or fish oil supplements available on the market but how do you choose the right one for you. Start by looking for one that reaches the efficacy level around 2-3grams per day (2000-3000gm). Ideally you’ll need to take this supplement daily so minimum 1000gm per tablet. Make sure there are no fillers, it’s chemical and GMO free and as natural as possible.
Breakfast time is the ideal time of day to take this supplement to help keep the fish oil lasting longer and prevent it from spoiling, always store it in the fridge.
Calcium:
We’re all getting old, no one can debate this and what holds us together? Our Muscles and bones of course, and as we start to age our bones if not appropriately looked after can become brittle and frail.
Calcium is essential in strengthening bones and without calcium in our diets, our bodies rob this nutrient from our bones therefore weakening them over time. Calcium not only supports our bones but also our muscle and teeth health.
It’s best to take a Calcium combined supplement with Magnesium. It’s important to combine these ingredients as calcium alone can have a side effect of constipation, while magnesium prevents this.
Remember to always drink plenty of water when taking your Calcium & Magnesium supplement and avoid taking it within 1-2 hours of your multivitamin as calcium can block the absorption of other nutrients.
