Ever heard of Gatorade and Powerade? Come on ~ I know you have! These drinks have to be some of the worst things you can put into your body and today I’m going to tell you why.
Lately I have been seeing alot of kids walking around drinking this so called healthy energy drink stuff and to be honest it burns a little fire in me. I know what they are drinking is horribly bad for their bodies but they simply don’t. So with my passion fuelled for education, I felt it necessary to deliver this information to you.
Despite these drinks being labeled and marketed as healthy energy and electrolyte drink options for athletes and active individuals … I’m sorry to say, they are far from that. Not only are they packed with refined sugars, artificial colours and chemicals, but one of the worst is brominated vegetable oil. Brominated Vegetable Oil is just one of the toxic ingredients used in these products, all of which have been linked to lead towards diseases including conditions of the heart, joints, bond, brain, blood, liver and connective tissue.
We all know that with our busy lives that lead from time to time we all need a little bit of extra energy, but people Gatorade and Powerade are not the way to go! Not only are these drinks marketed to be taken to increase energy but they are also suggested to be known sources of replacing electrolytes. Electrolytes help keep our bodies balanced in many ways including making our muscles contract and relax, carrying glucose and other nutrients into our cells, they also regulate your heart beat and blood pressure.
So lets look at some natural ways we can replenish our bodies with electrolytes.
3 Natural Remedies to Replenishing Electrolytes
COCONUTS!

Coconut Water is a rehydration drink that is naturally low in sugar and rich in vitamins, minerals, electrolytes, enzymes, amino acids and cytokine. With a ton of electrolytes and potassium Coconut water will help keep you hydrated and stop your body from getting any cramps. TIP: make sure that you are drinking 100% natural CW though… some brands out there throw in loads of sugar – stick to natural!
It is great to combine Coconut water with Chia seeds. Full of Omega 3 fatty acids, fiber and protein Chia Seeds are a fantastic energy source.
They also have the ability to hold 9 times their weight in water – this
is excellent for staying hydrated.
CELERY Juice
This juice is a great refreshing drink for rebalancing and replenishing. Juice together Celery, Apple and Lemon. Celery’s are a natural source of sodium, potassium, magnesium, chloride and phosphorus. Add in some Apples for some sweetness and potassium +Lemons as they are the highest electrolyte containing citrus fruit so not only is it great on it’s own it is fantastic to add to any juices or smoothies.
Bi-Carb Soda + Lemon + Raw Honey + Sea Salt
For ultimate balancing and electrolytes mix these ingredients together in a glass of purified/alkalized water. Funny as it may seem however Bi Carb Soda is fantastic for alkalizing the body and while making the the body less acidic.
