I love this time of year – the week after Christmas and before New Year’s.  Each year regardless of where I am, I always take this time to reflect on the new year ahead and goal set.  2014 is going to be a great year for Wellsome there are many exciting things happening and I can’t wait for you to walk down this street with me.

Speaking of streets. Earlier this year I attended the Hay House – I Can Do It Event.  I want to share a pivotal story that helped change and mould my into whom I am today.  This story I’m about to share with you, was shared by Dr. Wayne Dyer. Half way through his address he started reciting a story by Portia Nelson. The story really resonated with me, and I thought I would share it with you because I think that it really sums up what all of us wellness warriors are seeking.

Portia was asked to write her autobiography in 5 chapters. Here’s what she wrote:

Chapter 1 of my life: I walk down the street. There is a deep hole in the side walk. I fall in, I’m lost. I’m helpless. It isn’t my fault. And, it takes forever to find a way out.

Chapter 2 of my life: I walk down the same street; there’s a deep hole in the sidewalk. I pretend I don’t see it. I fall in, again. I can’t believe I’m in the same place! It isn’t my fault. It still takes a long time for me to get out.

Chapter 3 of my life: I walk down the same street; there’s a deep hole in the sidewalk. I see the hole, and I still fall in! It’s a habit but my eyes are open. I know where I am, and it’s my own fault. And, I get out immediately.

Chapter 4 of my life:  I walk down the same street; there’s a deep hole in the sidewalk. I walk around it.

Chapter 5 of my life: Finally…I walk down another street!

With New years upon us I want to take the opportunity to share with you this question:  What street are you walking down in 2014?

Do you need a new street?

Being my favourite time of year to goal set I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to share 3 essential tips to goal setting that sticks.

3 Tips for Goal Setting 2014

What are your goals for 2014?

3 Tips for goal setting:

1. Don’t over think it.  It’s so easy to get caught up in the thought of a goal and ‘oh’ is this actually achievable.  Set the goal and worry about it later, if it is something you feel and are drive to accomplish – anything is possible. So don’t be your own worse enemy and shut down your goals before you’ve already set them.

2. Write it down! Verbalizing goals is great yes, but writing it down just takes it to a whole new level. Write them down some place specials and write them down as many times as you like.  I keep a happiness journal beside my bed. This is the first place I write them down… but then I also write them down in my phone, as flash cards that I stick on the fridge and sometimes I keep them in my wallet too.  So write it down, you don’t have to share them with anyone but make sure you write it down.

3. Take Action.  So you’ve got your goals and you’ve written them down. Now comes the next big step that defines your results; taking action.  It’s easy to think and talk about like your going to do it, but the most important thing is actually DO’ing it!  Yep you need to take action.  Even if it is small action! The ones you succeed and achieve what they set out to are the ones that turn up, if you turn up and take action your already ahead of those who just never turn up. Just DO!  – Be a DO’er this year, you know you can and yes you will!

So to recap!  Take the time today to think about your street for 2014. What street are you walking down in 2014?

– Set your Goals
– Write them down
– Take Action!

Comment below I’d love to what your goals are for 2014!
