Having grown up in a family with Coeliac sufferers I’ve been on and off a gluten free diet for a large part of my life.  For the last 3.5 years however I have been eating strictly gluten free and I can’t tell you how much of a difference it has made to my life and also my body.

Surprisingly I haven’t found myself hating or regretting the diet and lifestyle change, mainly because it has produced and extended so much positivity into my life. I can honestly say that I owe much of what and who I am – physically, mentally, and emotionally all to living gluten free. I love sharing my story and experiences with you and if you’ve been thinking about making the diet switch to gluten free the next step from here is identifying the benefits of a Gluten Free Diet.  I’ve put this blog post together for exactly that purpose.  Once you’ve complete reading this article you will know ‘Why’ going gluten free is so detrimental to your health.

6 Benefits of a Gluten Free Diet

So what are the 6 main benefits of a gluten free transformation to your diet and lifestyle?

  1. More energy and better metabolism
  2. Weight control
  3. Disease prevention
  4. Detoxification
  5. Emotional stability
  6. And greater opportunities for growth and progress.

Let’s find out how and why:

You see, one of the most popular benefits of gluten free food is that it keeps you from feeling bloated and sluggish throughout the day – this is one of the biggest changes I noticed going gluten free. With the minimization of starchy carbohydrates, which go hand in hand with gluten intake, ultimately your only exposing your body to the nutrients that really matters. Not only do you end up providing yourself with more great nutrients, in turn it also allows your digestive system to be effective when it comes to metabolizing what you’ve consumed. Your nutrients get delivered faster to your cells, which then function just as rapidly. As a result, you get to do more for less. This reality also gives way to lower food intake so you end up feeling lighter and more capable of even shortly after meals.

With that said, it becomes obvious that another one of the advantages of a gluten free diet plan is that you get to control your weight while feeling fantastic and looking great. Being overweight is something 67% of the Australian population struggles with. Weight Control issues bring about a number of debilitating and life-threatening diseases such as diabetes, heart problems and anginas. With gluten free diet plans and gluten free recipes, you get to combat obesity problems on one spectrum and you won’t necessarily have to withhold yourself from deliciously tasting foods in the process.

For the most part, a gluten free diet will just help you make informed choices about your food consumption and portion control. Yes of course you will still need to pair up your well balanced diet with regular exercise to gain the best results. But in any case, simply changing your diet to gluten free can allow you to lose a few pounds after a few weeks and over a period of time can usher a reboot on of your overall health for long term.

Jumping off from my article ‘10 Reasons Why You Should Go Gluten Free‘, one of the major gluten free diet benefits you should take note of is the fact that gluten free meals aid in the prevention and development of many diseases, particularly cancer and autoimmune ailments. Be forewarned – gluten has been proven to be a precursor to 55 existing health issues; such as multiple sclerosis, anemia, neuropathy and osteoporosis.

In addition to the above, a gluten free diet can also minimize your exposure to harmful chemicals in processed foods, which are usually the ones that contain the most amount of gluten anyway. With gluten free recipes, you are encouraged to eat as near organic and fresh as possible as this enables you to detoxify more throughly.

Also on my list of gluten free benefits is that the absence of gluten from your diet can aid in emotional stability and balance. Might sound a bit stupid but gluten is a massive cause of our emotional states and fluctuations of emotions, gluten can also have a direct connection with having a negative effect on your hormones and brain function, which trigger mood swings and bouts of depression. By simply cutting the gluten you can feel less on edge, calmer, clear headed – keeping you feeling optimistic about your life and your well-being.

With all things considered, the major upside of a gluten free diet plan is that it will give you more opportunities to further yourself and your lifestyle. You’ll get to plan more, work more, enjoy more, love more all by simply following a gluten free eating plan. You’ll get to think better and problem solve more efficiently as well as cope with any contingencies that pop up unexpectedly.

The question now is, would you give up the Gluten glue?
