Last week I experienced My First Colonic. Yep you heard it right… I let someone stick a tube in my backside and flush me with water. During my time in Bali this September I took part in a 6 Day Cleanse Detox. My main purpose for doing this was to clean out and detoxify myself from the inside out, and what better way to start my Cleanse than by cleaning out and detoxifying myself than with a Colonic.
Let’s talk about Colonics!
What is a Colonic, what does it involved and how can it help you…
Firstly a Colonic is not an Enema, so lets clear that confusion up. An enema is something that you do alone, with a colonic a colon hydrotherapist is with you conducting and controlling your colonic. Briefly the role of an Enema is to detoxify the liver, while a Colonic cleans the colon and flushes out toxin’s and waste. Colon Hydrotherapy (a Colonic) is the best way to detoxify your body and support your immune system while you are fasting, cleansing, losing weight or even maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
So what does a Colonic involved…
(I get asked this question a lot and everyone seems to want to know all the details so be aware – I’m giving you them all). At the beginning of your colonic you strip down to a dressing gown and lay on a bed. Laying on your side with your knees at a right angle towards your chest the therapist will then insert the tube into your backside, yes there is only one tube. This can be slightly uncomfortable however it only lasts a couple of seconds. Once the Tube is inserted you rotate to lay on your back with your needs in the air and feet solidly on the bed. From here your Colonic flushing begins.
There are two types of Colonics available, gravity fed and pressurized – names speak for themselves really. I had a ‘gravity fed’ colonic where by the water is transported into you via the miracle of gravity. Filtered water then flows gently into your colon, hydrating your large intestine and stimulating the body’s natural peristalsis. This process is quiet comfortable and pain free, I was able to feel the water flowing inside of me, this process is quiet gentle there is no pain. Once you are filled up ‘to the brim’ (it almost feels like you’ve eaten the biggest buffet ever and you may explode), the water is then lightly massaged around by the therapist with a light hand pressure on your stomach. From here the water is reversed and flushed out of you naturally.
At this stage this can be the only awkward moment where by you think your going to poo everywhere, but not to stress you don’t actually poo everywhere, you poo into the tube which flushes away all of your poo for you. It feels awkward as you don’t need to poo yourself, the water pressure naturally allows your poo to flow. Kind of cool if you ask me.
So how can a Colonic help you?
The process of a Colonic cleanses the colon of unwanted waste, exercises the colon muscles, stimulates reflex points in the colon, hydrates the whole body and is also great for disease prevention as colonics alkaline balance. If you are at all constipated and/or experience poor digestion, colonics are definitely recommended. Colonics when also taken with the right herbs can aid in dislodging old undigested food that may be lodged in your Colon.
Some of the other benefits of having a Colonic include, a feeling of lightness, clear eyes & emotional clarity. Moreover, lifestyle symptoms like fatigue, headaches, irritability, gas, skin problems, cold hands & feet and lethargy are among some of the problems that a colon cleansing can relieve.
If you’ve never had a colonic before and are thinking of doing a fast or any type of cleanse I highly recommend you have a colonic, it will hasten the removal of toxic waste from your body and you will feel revitalized.
