The Recipe for Change

by | Nov 5, 2013 | Holistic Health | 1 comment

It’s one of life’s greatest ironies that the only constant is change. Yet, amidst all this change, we can sometimes resist it as though our lives depended on it.

Change in our personal relationships at home, change at work—even the lack of the right change can terrify us into total freeze-frame, unable to take any kind of action.

We are creatures of habit, and we cling to the idea that we have control over our lives.

The truth is that  – in order to change you must add a new and different ingredient to your list.

Variety is the spice of life

The Recipe for Change

No matter where you are now in your life, there’s always a way to create something new. Think about Oprah who was born into poverty in Mississippi to a teenage mother, experienced sexual assault and a host of other challenges. Yet she was able to overcome these circumstances and use her natural talent to become a radio reporter, a TV news anchor, and finally, a talk show host  and now has her own network.

We can’t control what happens to us; we can only control what we do next.

You Must Embrace Change — Or Risk Staying the Same

What would have happened if Oprah hadn’t had the fortitude to change her own life? What if she hadn’t taken that job to become a talk show host in Chicago?

She would have been personally impacted, yes, but think of the thousands—millions—of lives she has impacted over the years.

My guess is that not only would you see enormous personal benefit, but everyone you touch would benefit as well. Think about your partner, your children, your employees and coworkers, your extended family, your friends.

You may not have a fanbase of millions like Oprah, but I believe in the power of connection, and you never know who you will ultimately touch.  When you raise the bar of excellence in your life, you in turn raise it for everyone around you. Imagine what your life would be like if you and those you loved were all elevated to new heights?

Your Recipe:

It’s my passion to help women create a lifestyle where they can each step out of their own shadow and find happiness and success in their own lives.

•           What do you want to create in your life?

•           Who would enjoy this just as much as you?

•           What are all the things you need to create this?

Consider adding in a new perspective, a dash of taking some time alone to think through what you need to do or just go  for it knowing that you can always experiment with a new ingredient later until you get it just right!

You’re right, we all think we have some sort of control over our lives. We can plan and expect things to turn out as we see them but do they ever really? Change requires letting go of the reigns and allowing ourselves to transform into something new, something more. But the fear of the unknown can like you said, lock us into a “freeze frame”. I’ve been there many times where instead of doing “something” I did “nothing” and got a “nothing” result. As you mentioned about affecting not only ourselves, the most important part of growing and changing is about the impact we will have on others.
